Augustus was allied with Marc Antony & Marcus Lepidus
Together, the 3 conquered many lands including part of Egypt
The alliance dissolved, and Augustus was left to manage a vast empire
He was a cunning leader that often used political tricks to further his power

Augustus empowered the governors of Rome
He also took some power away from the senate
He increased the spread of taxes and raised more money for the gov’t
With this tax he built roads and marble buildings

Period of peace started during reign of Augustus
Literally means “Roman peace”
Everyone spoke the same language (Latin)
Romans built roads to connect cities
