Weekly Announcements 9/29/17

Hello Parents!

It’s been a great week!

NWEA scores went home in Thursday folders. I will review these scores with you and answer any and all questions at the November conferences.

Here are some updates and important information:

-Picture Day is October 6th. It will be an official uniform day (red polo and khaki bottoms- if the bottoms have belt loops, it needs a belt; if the bottoms do not have belt loops, no belt is needed. The bottoms can be khaki pants, skirt, or skort). There will be another picture day in the spring called “Dress to Impress” where the students can wear their own outfits.

-October 11-15th is fall break- no school

-If you haven’t already, please purchase your student’s tie dye shirt. Your student will need this to wear on field trip days!  This shirts are sold throughout the year by PTO.

-Red Thursday Folders: Keep items on the LEFT, return items on the RIGHT! Make sure you are signing all assessments that are being returned on the RIGHT.  I’ll return all assessments to you during our November conference.

Here is an overview of what we will learn this upcoming week:

Math: We will continue our unit on numbers 1-10. The students will learn to represent and write numbers 6, 7, and 8. We will also practice graphing numbers 1-8.

Domain (Listening and Learning): We will continue our domain, “Stories”. We will read, “The Three Little Pigs”, “The Three Billy Goats Gruff”, “The Wolf and the Seven Little Kids”, “The Bremen Town Musicians”, and “Momotaro Peach Boy”. The students will practice retelling and sequencing the stories.

Skills: We will continue to learn the sounds of the alphabet. We will learn the sounds “g” and “i”. We will use mirrors to watch our mouths say these sounds and we will practice writing these sounds, too. We will review all previous learned sounds. We will blend all these sounds to form words by using our pocket charts and playing games. Please do not refer to these sounds by their letter name. This is essential to your child’s foundational reading skills and will transfer over smoothly as they begin to read. Please do not begin calling them their alphabet name until after winter break.

Have a wonderful weekend!
