Weekly Update #12 November 9, 2017

Hello Parents!

We loved seeing you at conferences this week!

Here are some updates and important information:

-November 22-24th there is no school due to the Thanksgiving holiday.

-A reading log challenge was sent home in Thursday folders. Please refer to Sunday notes with any questions about this and if you have further questions, please email Kia Wright at kwright@cornerstonek12.org

-Please utilize and make yourself familiar with the Compass Learning website or app. We will begin to incorporate this into homework soon. If you have any questions or difficulty logging in, please let me know! There is a link for compass and directions for logging on under study tools/resources.

-Monday in homework folders you will find information about our farm feast and costumes for our performance.  Your child is assigned a specific animal from the farm.  We will need some parental involvement for food donations and help setting up/cleaning up the feast.  Please let me know if you would be interested in this activity.  This is a grade level event.

-We have had a chatty couple of days.   Please remind your sweet little ones the importance of still listening to their teachers or other adult in the classroom even when they would rather talk and play. :)  Thank you!

-We know you have a lot extra treats at home from Halloween. Please be mindful when sending these treats to school. We encourage healthy snacks and we might ask your children to wait to eat their treats until after they’ve eaten their lunch.

-Our recess begins at 9:30 and it has been very chilly in the mornings. Please send your child with a jacket every morning!

Here is an overview of what we will learn this upcoming week:

Math: We will begin our unit on shapes. We will learn about positional words, cubes, cones, rectangular blocks, and spheres.

Domain (Listening and Learning): We will have our assessment on plants on Monday. On Tuesday, we will begin a new domain: Farms. The students will hear a variety of read alouds: ‘Old MacDonald’, ‘With a Moo, Moo Here’, ‘And a Cluck, Cluck There’, and ‘Here an Oink, There an Oink’. Please see the handout on this domain’s project! The students were assigned an animal. You and your child will create a homemade costume for their performance. We are so excited for our Farm Feast- more info to come soon!

Skills: We will begin a new unit that will cover all sounds learned. The students will begin learning new sounds: b, l, r, and u. Remember, please to refer to your videos for the sound the letter makes. Do not refer to these sounds as the letters quite yet!

Have a wonderful 3 day weekend!
