Weekly Update #12

Hello Parents!

I hope everyone had a great week!

Please be practicing the sound ring at home and please watch the video that was sent to ensure that you are saying the sounds correctly with your child! You can also take the sound cards off the ring to create words to read, but make sure you put the cards back on the ring. Please make sure the ring is always in the proper place in their book bag so that we can add on sounds as we learn them. Thank you!

Here are some updates and important information:

-Parent Teacher Conferences are coming up on November 8th and 9th. The signup is below. These will both be early release days (11:45 dismissal). November 10th is Veteran’s Day, no school for students!

-We know you have a lot extra treats at home from Halloween. Please be mindful when sending these treats to school. We encourage healthy snacks and we might ask your children to wait to eat their treats until after they’ve eaten their lunch.

-Our recess begins at 9:30 and it has been very chilly in the mornings. Please send your child with a jacket every morning!

Here is an overview of what we will learn this upcoming (short) week:

Math: We will be ordering numbers in descending order (10-1). We will review on Wednesday and assess on Thursday. We will be making a turkey craft on ordering numbers!

Domain (Listening and Learning): We will continue our domain on plants. The students will hear more read alouds this week: “Evergreen Trees”, “Plants and People”, and “George Washington Carver”. We will focus on the words: evergreen, deciduous, bouquets, and crops.

Skills: We will practice all sounds learn so far. We will blend all these sounds to form words by using our pocket charts and playing games. The students will also hear a sound and write the sound down (dictation). Please do not refer to these sounds by their letter name. This is essential to your child’s foundational reading skills and will transfer over smoothly as they begin to read. Please do not begin calling them their alphabet name until after winter break! If you have any questions, please let me know.

Have a wonderful weekend!
