Weekly Update #15 December 8, 2017

Hello Parents!

Thank you to everyone who supported the Farm Festivities this week! The Farm Animals were adorable! The performance was great! The food was fantastic!! WE CAN ‘T THANK YOU ENOUGH!!

Here are some updates and important information:

-If you have not picked up your dishes from the farm feast please contact your child’s teacher.  We also have a ton of utensils (large serving spoons.)

-Please send in any farm photos from the performance!

-We have only had 50% of the students in our class utilize compass.  Please make sure that you’re having your child complete at least 2 compass activates each week.  This is linked to homework.  I receive a weekly report each Monday.

-We only had 35% of the class bringing their object. This was listed in the homework.  Please make sure that you are looking at the weekly homework posted on the website.  Thank you!

-Please make sure that you are logging reading in the RED reading bag.  You only need to list one book each night.  Please continue to practice letter sounds.

-Please have your child complete the extension activities in skills homework: they really benefit from the writing practice.  Thank you to those who are already doing this!

-Your child will have a Skills Unit 5 book in their book bag.  This book is just extra practice pages of your child would like to work in it.  This book does not need to be returned.

-Our Gingerbread House activity will take place on December 15th. Thank you to everyone who has already signed up to help! We need all graham crackers, plates, and glue sticks by Wednesday.

-Please have your book exchange books here by Thursday.  Your child will need a wrapped book to participate.

Here is an overview of what we will learn this upcoming week:

Math: We will continue our unit on shapes. We will review all previous taught 3D shapes and 2D shapes: cone, cylinder, cube, sphere, rectangular prism, pyramid, circle, triangle, square, rectangle, and hexagon.

Domain (Listening and Learning): We will continue to work on our class science fair project on magnetism!

Skills: The students will continue to review the sounds that they’ve learned.   They will be introduced to the Alphabet and learn letter names.  They will also begin to blend and read four –sound words with initial or final consonant clusters (trip/sand).  They will also learn the spelling alternative ‘s’ for /z/ (dogs).  Students will also begin reading in their KIT readers.

If you have read these notes please draw a snow flake on the top of the first page on your child’s homework packet.
