Weekly Update

Good morning Parents,

Thank you to those who have contributed to our class reward for slime. We will be making the slime on Monday. If I have any parents who would be willing to come help me prepare materials (Monday @ 9:30 a.m.), I would love to have some help! Just let me know if you can come help out!

Next week in reading, students will be learning how to make inferences about a character’s traits. To determine a character’s trait, students need to look at the character’s actions, what they say, think, and feel. You can help at home by discussing the characters in the book they are reading and what traits they believe their character possess. Character traits are internal rather than external and students sometimes confuse these. We want them to identify traits like: responsibility, cheerful, friendly, adventurous, compassionate, etc.

In math, students will learn how to solve multiplication and division word problems. Students will be given notes to glue into their math journals with step by step instructions as well as key words to look for in context. Please continue to work with your child on learning his/her math facts to twelve. Your child should be passing each level within three attempts. If the rocket math sheet comes home in your child’s homework folder, please review the facts and you can keep it at home. Thanks!

In domain, we will begin our new unit on Ancient Rome. Passages will come home in connection with what we are studying. Please review these passages at home. Ancient Rome is at least a four week study, so I am hoping to finish the unit before the end of the 2nd quarter. I will keep you updated to when the end of unit test will be.

Check out my web page to see math notes and notes on Ancient Rome.
